Different Girls E.P. Album Review

Space Baby
007

A loose pick-up band consisting of members of the Mavericks, Sixpence None the Richer, Wilco and Cheap Trick, Swag produces pleasant if not planet-shattering pop. The art of Winston Smith graces this lovely vinyl 10" which serves four tunes later featured on Swag's first full-length Catch-All. Opener "Lone" jangles along well enough; "Different Girl" goes for a fab ambiance; "When She Awoke" also cascades over talented solo artist Doug Powell's delicious Curiouser; and strings help "Louise" (of course at least one girl-name title) recover from a crummy beginning. Swag doesn't scale the heights of its influences, but proven talent mimicking pop-gods doesn't disappoint.
