Flipp is an overt product of 70's arena-trash. Lead singer Bryan Arens howls in Johnny Rotten fashion
over Cheap Trick power chords, all wrapped in theatrical Ezrin-style production. Sometimes
songwriting is overshadowed by a flair for the outlandish, as lyrics concern stupidity ( the rippin'
"Half a Brain"), celestial celebrity (the cosmic "Wish I Was a Planet"), apathy (the iconoclastic "I
Don't Care") and martyrdom (the miraculous "Bleed"). Thus, like most 70's records, some songs soar
while others sink; but the keepers make Flipp a worthy debut.
